Workstead
The Ides Bar
The Ides Bar was conceived as a jewel box in the sky, with commanding views over the est river towards Md-town Manhattan. Painted in a deep Hague Blue, the paneling reflects the light and changes color throughout the day. Floor tiles composed of Carrara marble squares and punctuated with solid brass pieces, catching glimmers of light as the sun sets into the space each evening. The mirrors, banquettes, and light fixtures were all custom made by a local metalworker. For the bar, Workstead referenced a nautical form, created a deep, bowed structure that counterbalances the distant view beyond. The terrace is an expansive, I-shaped space with concrete tiles and move teak planters. Furniture is flexible and playful, allowing for a multitude of functions and serving as a gathering place for the Brooklyn community.
